Location location locationThe flats are situated on the border between Leblon and Ipanema - just two blocks from the beaches. About five kilometres of them. Leblon beach is more family orientated, while Ipanema is favoured by the local urban-chic tribes. Both are safe - though tourists mustn't forget they're in Rio, and should take all the usual precautions. The sea is often boisterous, and on rough days there are currents - so young children and non-swimmers need to be extra careful. You can hire beach chairs and sunshades fairly cheaply, and there's an endless parade of beach vendors selling drinks, suntan oil, and icecream. On Sundays the main road is closed and turned into a pedestrian walkway. Back on the street and it's a short walk to the shopping centres, restaurants, cinemas, banks etc etc. The newly built Shopping Leblon is just behind the flats, and has four floors of up-market shops. On the top floor there are five cinemas, an art gallery, and a selection of bars and restaurants. There are several international cashpoints and there's free wideband Wi-fi access throughout. Just nextdoor is the Rio Design Leblon building. Three floors of boutiques and designer outlets. From the flats you can walk along the main road through Ipanema, Rio's most expensive borough, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, clubs and bars. Walk in the other direction for ten minutes to reach Baixo Leblon. Haunt of Rio's rich and famous - plus its bohemians. Think : ' Soho on Sea '.
